Whether you’re coming in for individual therapy, an autism evaluation or EMDR Intensives, the first appointment will always be the “intake” where we will meet and discuss what’s bringing you in, your history, and your goals. I will then create a treatment plan based off of the goals we discussed and we will review it together at your next appointment to make sure it aligns with what you’re wanting to get out of therapy. You will also complete a few baseline assessments on things like anxiety and depression (GAD-7 & PHQ-9) to help me learn more about you. At the end, we will review my practice policies, consent forms, and any fees.

This is totally up to you! Some people choose to come to therapy for a few weeks or a few months and others choose to continue therapy for a few years. It really depends on what you are wanting to work on and how far you want to go with it. We will review your treatment plan every 6 months to make sure we are on track and so you have a chance to discuss if you would like to continue on or start working towards “graduation”. At this point, we will revise any goals, add new ones, take off goals we’ve already met, etc.

I tell every person that walks through my door the same thing: If we get a few sessions in and you feel that we aren’t a good fit for any reason at all, please feel free to let me know so that I can help you get matched with someone that may fit you better. I never take this personally; I’m not going to be everyone’s cup of tea and that’s ok! I would much rather you tell me how you feel so that I can make sure you get the therapy experience you want, versus you keeping these feelings to yourself and then giving up on therapy later down the road because you tried to stick it out and it left a bad taste in your mouth for therapy in general. Having a good therapeutic relationship is so important for your journey, don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself!
